Advice by Ibn al-Mubarak

A man once said to Ibn al-Mubarak رحمه الله: “Give me some advice.”

He replied:

• Leave off unnecessary looking, and you will be granted Khushu‘ (devotion in prayer).

• Leave off unnecessary speech, and you will be granted wisdom.

• Leave off excessive eating, and you will be granted the ability to worship.

• Leave off spying on the faults of others, and you will be granted insight into your own faults.
